A wooden gazebo transforms your yard into a cozy retreat, a perfect spot for entertaining or relaxing. It creates an instant focal point in your yard, a place to get out of the sunlight and to enjoy the beauty of the garden. With the right care, a wooden gazebo can look great for years, even decades. Here are a few simple tips to keep your gazebo in ship shape.
1. Wash it from time to time with a mild liquid detergent to clean it and to avoid mildew. Remove the excess dirt with a brush or a hose before cleaning the wood. Avoid using harsh supplies, but use a soft-bristle brush to clear out stubborn dirt and stains.
2. Preserve the natural beauty of the wood by applying a water-repellent sealer every 2 years. Apply the sealant to all the exposed wood including flooring and railings. When repainting, use a sealer and paint that are meant to be used together to avoid paint chipping prematurely.
3. If you have plants growing around the Gazebo, make sure to maintain them. Uproot weeds and creepers from the sides of the Gazebo. Vines add a charming touch to a Gazebo, so if you want to allow them to grow, make sure you prune them regularly.
Inspect the Gazebo’s interior and exterior for insect nests and webs. Remove webs with a long-handled broom. Spray insect nests with an insecticide before knocking it down. Be careful especially in case of bees or wasp nest.
4. Check the roofing regularly. Remove leaves, twigs, dead branches and other debris that fall on it every few months. Climb a ladder and use a broom to clear debris. Avoid standing on the roof and using a blower. This regular clearing will prolong the life of the roof and prevent leaks.
5. Ensure there’s plenty of airflow in and around the Gazebo to keep it dry. Avoid moisture or water near the Gazebo structure. Bushes and shrubs should be trimmed back so that they don’t touch the wood.
